Class Choice information
IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR 2022-2023 YEAR:
- Class Choice will only be open to students for schedule changes from July 11th- Aug 11th.
- Your student logs in to their PowerSchool (to access Class Choice it must be through your students PowerSchool, not a parent account).
- We will not be opening up Class Choice for schedule changes during the school year.
- All changes for the year should be made before school starts.
- Students can only request an Elective changes during the school year by filling out an elective change request form and returning it to the Counseling Office. The change will only be made if an open seat is available. Forms are to be turned in prior to the start of the trimester in which the requested class is in.
- Teacher changes must have Administrative approval please complete this form to request a teacher change.
- No schedule changes will be made after the 3rd day of the trimester.
- Freshman and Sophomores will keep the same teacher for the full year in Algebra I, Geometry, English 9, and English 10.
- In order to move a class from one period to a new period, hover over it to see available trimesters, periods & seats. Your student will then drop the class they are wanting to move from its current spot. Then they will go to the hour that they would like to have that class, click the edit button. The new class will then be visible in the drop down menu for the desired period, and once they enter it in that period hit the save button at the bottom.
Class Request pointers.
- When your student logs in to PowerSchool (to access Class Choice it must be through your students PowerSchool, not a parent account) go to the requests tab if it does not automatically show up.
- Your student will see a red bar in the middle - when it is completely green, your student is done with the request process. We are moving to a 6 period day - so your student will need to request 18 classes.
- When requesting a course with multiple sections i.e.: English 9A,B,C only the A section will show, and it will automatically schedule you for the B & C sections.
- The graduation requirements are to the left of the red bar. This can assist your student in knowing what classes they need to take.
- Your student does not need to worry about the "Add Special" tab unless your student is a junior who is wanting school release or to graduate TRI 2 of their senior year.
- If your junior is wanting to graduate TRI 2 of their senior year, they must first contact their counselor BEFORE April 2nd of their junior year. If your student waits until after this point, we cannot guarantee that they will be able to graduate TRI 2.
- The "Add Core" screen is where your student will select their Math. English, and Science courses, which will vary depending on the grade of your student. Just as a reminder incoming freshmen and sophomores need to select 3 trimesters of English and 3 trimesters of Math.
- With the credits remaining, your student will go to the "Add Electives" drop down and select their elective courses. Your student will select elective courses until their whole bar in the middle of the screen is green.
- Once your student has completed these steps, they will need to "Add Alternates". We suggest selecting at least 3 alternates. These are classes your student would be interested in taking if they are unable to take one of their requested elective courses.
Please take note of the following: Class change info.
- When your student logs in to PowerSchool (to access Class Choice it must be through your students PowerSchool, not a parent account) please disregard any text about entering class requests; your students requests are made in the spring of the previous year.
- Once changes are made in Class Choice, it does not automatically update your student's schedule to view in PowerSchool. Know that whatever schedule they create in Class Choice is accurate. Their adjusted schedule will roll into PowerSchool when the class change window is closed.
- Your student may have one or more holes in their schedule. This is due to a variety of factors such as: Your student may not have requested enough classes or your student may not have been able to take one of his/her requested classes because the class is full. Your student will need to fill all holes in his/her schedule.
- If a class is full, it is full. Your student can keep checking while class choice is open to see if anyone has dropped it, thereby making it available for them to select. The Counselors do not have the ability to overfill courses to "fit them in".
- Once your student drops a class, someone else might take it, so make sure they've located the class they want instead & that they are truly willing to drop the class they're dropping.
- Take ownership in your schedule by doing a thorough audit to ensure you received all the core classes you need each year (i.e. BOTH A&B sections of English, Math, Science, Government, etc), and that you are meeting all your other graduation requirements.
- If your student finds that you want to take a college section of a core class, please talk with your counselor either before the trimester starts or within the first 3 days of each new trimester & they will see if there are available seats and if your student meets the prerequisites for the college course.
- If you and/or your student still have questions, please refer to step 1 and step 2, at the top of the page.
